“I began this painting when a punk band were rehearsing in the studio next door. What initially was to be a black canvas, became striped as it was created, because of the rhythms in the music, which fascinated me. The song was about Brazil and I wanted some kind of south american essence in the colours that I used. But not completely. I also wanted there to be an ambiguity in it’s nature. Then the task became following my intuition and creating an atmosphere, using the feeling implied by the colours to create the sensuality”. Jez Prior
